Answers to some common questions:
What happens if I send my claim form in late? Will I still get a check??
It depends how late you wait to send your check. Do not wait over a week or you most likely have to file an appeal as to why you did not send your claim forms in. Once I was late over a month because I had moved and did not receive my mail. I filed an appeal and had to go through a phone interview after which I was approved again. I soon started receiving checks again.
What If I have a change of address? Will there be a delay in my checks??
No, there should not be. From my experience every time I moved, I just filled out the change of address on the back of the claim form and all of my checks came on time. Believe me i was stressed out though until i got the checks. but the EDD was good about this.
I am past my first extension, will my second one be automatically filed? Or third for that matter?
Always call to check to see the status of your extension to see if they have it on file or if you need to reapply online.. One of mine was automatically applied for and the other two I had to reapply online. Once there was a 3 month gap between checks.. so keep calling even though the lines are busy and find out about your claim. Sometimes you may need to speak to two or three different representatives to get the correct info regarding your claim. I know.. frustrating.
Do you get taxes back from Unemployment Benefits?
Yes, you will receive taxes back as long as you check to withhold the taxes on your claim forms! This helped me a lot as I got around $800 back.
For those applying for the 3rd Extension of Unemployment Benefits, apply at the EDD website as you did when you first did for Unemployment. The application process is the same. Please do not assume that it will automatically be filed for you.
